Are we also being studied?
In the last half of the 2020s, researchers at MIT gave AI the task of finding an explanation for the Fermi paradox. The Fermi paradox is: if there are many intelligent civilisations out there in the universe, where are they? Why do they not reveal themselves to us? Why do we see no obvious hints they are present?
The AI gave an interesting answer from a rather unexpected angle.
After analysing the historical trends in human communication from known history, AI concluded that probably other civilisations would be very advanced and communicating with each other by methods we could neither detect nor understand. They could even be studying us and we would never detect it. They would be like the scientist studying coral, with the coral totally unaware it was being studied. These other civilisations would be god-like to us.
To his great horror they turned up on Wednesday and he was executed.
This conclusion by AI seems all too possible. Could it be similarly, that God is studying us, but we are hardly aware of it?
